The National Association of Counsel for Children held its 48th National Child Welfare Law Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, August 10-13th. This year’s theme was Catalysts for Change: Innovating Advocacy Through Power Sharing and Transformational Leadership.
Our team, comprised of Annick Lenoir-Peek, Parent Defender; Sharice Zachary, Interdisciplinary Parent Representation Program Manager; and Ashley Jackson, Interdisciplinary Social Worker, presented “Navigating the Aftermath: Supporting Child Welfare Legal Defense Professionals and Families During Natural Disasters.” We learned a lot of lessons after Hurricane Helene hit us in 2024 which we shared with the engaged audience.
Meanwhile, we learned about other advocacy tools to use on behalf of our clients and enjoyed a reception at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We look forward to attending next year’s conference in Portland, Oregon.
